Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
